Former British Foreign Secretary David Miliband will meet the Tamil Diaspora

Former British Foreign Secretary David Miliband will meet the Tamil Diaspora in London next week, an email invitation said. Other members of the British Parliament and the European Parliament will also be present during the meeting.

An invitation released by a group calling themselves ‘Tamils for Labour’ states that the meeting with Miliband is the perfect opportunity for the Tamil Community to meet the man most likely to be the Leader of the Labour Party and the future Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

The meeting is expected to take place on September 4, the invitation said.

In February this year Miliband created controversy and a new chill settled on the diplomatic relation between Sri Lanka and Britain as he, as the then Foreign Secretary, addressed a meeting of the Global Tamil Forum in London. The forum is known to campaign for a separate Tamil nation in Sri Lanka.

Following his presence at the meeting, a protest was launched outside the British Embassy in Colombo where large cut out’s of the former British Prime Minister and Miliband were seen pasted across the walls with both of them dressed in LTTE outfits. (Daily Mirror online)
