Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has proposed that Army Operations Director Major General Shavendra Silva be appointed as Sri Lanka’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, sources from the Presidential Secretariat said.
Silva is to be appointed to the Sri Lankan mission in the UN to fill the vacancy created by former Deputy Permanent Representative and senior journalist Bandula Jayasekera, who left the mission after he was recalled this month.
Sources also said the Defence Secretary has proposed that several senior army officers who have stood against former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka be appointed
to Sri Lankan missions in foreign countries including China, Japan, France and England.
