President gives Roger 3,000 tons of scrap iron

2010-08-27
The President has agreed to provide the Colombo Commercial Company land currently in the possession of the Urban Development Authority (UDA), opposite the Beira Lake, to a Chinese Company to construct an apartment complex and has ordered that about 3,000 tons of scrap iron in the old building complex in the premises be given to popular actor and NFF Provincial Councilor Roger Seneviratne.
The contract to remove all scrap iron in the premises and doors and windows of the office building has been handed over to the SLFP trade union at the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLAP) by the President without calling any tenders. The President has also given the SLFP trade union the right to demolish the building and has asked the SLPA Chairman to hand over all scrap iron and doors and windows to Roger Seneviratne for a small commission.
A senior UDA official told Lanka News Web that although the value of the scrap iron has been estimated at Rs. 200 million, it is being given to Roger at Rs. 44 million and only Rs. 1 million has so far been paid for the lot.
end:

Bribery and corruption is rampant in Sri Lanka.
