September 15, 2010: In the event the reforms don't take place, then I would stand on behalf of every member of this party, says parliamentarian Rosy Senanayake. Responding to a statement by Ranil Wickremasinghe, she said that her stand was the same and all she was asking is for reforms to take place.
Many United National Party (UNP) parliamentarians have said that their decision to sit independently in parliament would not change unless party reforms are implemented immediately.
However, the party leadership said recently that they had not been informed of such a situation.
At a media briefing yesterday, journalists asked the party leadership about the intentions of a certain group of UNP members of parliament to sit independently in the House.
“No, No. No one has said anything like that. Some said a parliamentary group should be gathered. The media is saying that they are going to sit independently. If that is the case, then they won't be here.
When journalists mentioned the names of some members who had made statements to sit independently, Mr. Wickremasinghe said that Ms. Rosy Senanayake had not said anything to that effect.
“Rosy Senanayake has said something else thereafter. I saw two news items. There is competition among you as well. You say some person is right and another is wrong. Now Rosy Senanayake was just here. You should have asked her when she was leaving,” said Ranil Wickremasinghe.
“Absolutely not,” said Ms. Rosy Senanayake speaking to Newsfirst. My stand is the same. All I'm asking is for reforms to take place.
“The reforms committee forwarded a report after discussing with the party cadres and the findings were basically acknowledged and approved by the Working Committee.
“All we are asking is for these reforms to be implemented as soon as possible so that we can get on as a very strong opposition to defeat the present regime.
“If the reforms don't take place, then I would stand on behalf of every member of this party to make sure that their aspirations, their needs for this nation and for the party to be implemented.
“So I would fight independently on behalf of every member of the United National Party,” said Ms. Senanayake.

  1. Why did UNP and Ranil give people like her nomination?
Is it because of a pretty face?
    There should be party discipline.
The voters voted mainly for the party and not for Rosy or all her friends.
