The Defence Secretary has taken steps to establish permanent military camps in the North and east provinces claiming for the protection of national security. The Defence Secretary opened a camp in Mullikulam in Mannar as a first step in the programme on the 2nd.

The camp has been named as the Navy’s Wayamba Command Headquarters and Rear Admiral Ruwan Dias has been appointed as the commanding officer of the camp.

The coastal area between Udappuwa and Harippuwa and the seas to the west of the area till the Indo-Lanka maritime border and four naval camps in the area have been assigned to the Wayamba Command Headquarters.
