Rs 50,000 would be paid to the victims whose houses were damaged in the storm in Pottuvil and Buttala

A mini Tornado in Pottuvil and Buttala during the weakened damaged nearly 50 houses while power was disrupted as a result electricity posts coming down, officials said.Fifteen houses were damaged in Samanabedda Kalugolla while three were completely destroyed. Several shops in the area were also damaged while manioc plantations were also destroyed.

Another mini storm damaged more than 30 houses in Horabokka in the Buttala electorate. Power was also disrupted while several roads were damaged in Manampitiya, Palugasmada, Udarawa

The Disaster Management Centre said the maximum of Rs 50,000 would be paid to the victims whose houses were damaged in the storm as per the usual procedure followed in a disaster situation.
A victim identified as A. D. Ariyaratne said there was a sudden gush of wind around 2.30 p.m. He said his roof flew off several moments later.
Another victim S. D. Jayasunde ra said the roofing sheets of his house went flying suddenly while a huge tree fell on top of the house later. He said the walls of his house were cracked.

    But houses destroyed by the GOSL and Vanni does not receive any compensation.
    Adding insult to injury the army appropriates their land from the home owners.

    Twenty seven houses constructed at Thorayaya, Kurunegala as the second phase of the "Api Wenuwen Api " housing project, were ceremonially handed over to the war heroes and their families by Commander-in-Chief, HE President Mahinda Rajapaksa today, 5th September.
