DNA MP General (retd) Sarath Fonseka told Parliament yesterday that during his tenure as Army Commander, 200 kilos of gold had been unearthed from the Vellamulli waikkal area during operations there.
Participating, in the Emergency debate, Fonseka said that even larger stocks of gold had been recovered after he had stepped down as Commander of the Army, but no one knew what happened to that gold.
He said that KP, alias Kumaran Pathmanathan, too had access to a lot of cash, the whereabouts of which were still unknown.
'KP has said in an interview that he and the Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa think alike, so we can read a lot into that comment,' he said.
The former Army Commander said if KP had revealed such sentiments, when the war was in progress, then the lives of 5,000 soldiers could have been saved.
People like Karuna and Pillaiyan, who helped us during the war, had been sidelined, while KP has now Become a favourite,' he said.
