(Lanka-e-News, Sep.10, 2010, 9.45AM) UNP Kurunegala District MP Dayasiri Jayasekera said, the Govt. succeeded in getting the 18th amendment passed with an unexpected majority because, it offered immense cash and other benefits to the UNP MPs who crossed over to the Govt. Some of them received immediate gains, while other benefits were also promised for them in the future.
How monies were paid to the those MPs to run the car sales of their husbands; the cash amounts, the number of vehicles and what models of cars were given; and how some of them who crossed to the Govt. wanted to come back, but were stopped and those who mediated in this connection will all be revealed to the country shortly, Jayasekera declared.
Some of them did not cast their votes following their conscience. There are many transactions behind this which destroyed conscience and revolted against it, Jayasekera announced at a media briefing in Colombo yesterday (9).
