UNP should have the guts, says TNA

UNP should have the guts, says TNA:
"The Tamil National Alliance (TNA), referring to the UNP’s boycott of Parliamentary Sessions, said yesterday that the main opposition should have the guts to vote against the 18th Amendment.
TNA MP A. Vinayagamurthi said that if the UNP really opposes this Bill, they should vote against it.Also commenting on the political cross-overs, he said that if an MP wants to cross-over, he or she should resign from his seat first.

Before him, TNA MP M.A. Sumanthiran also said that only his party and the DNA were forthright in objecting to this Bill.
He also said that the country had been sickened by political crossovers. However, Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa said that MPs should have the right to act according to their conscience."

  1. It is absolute nonsense for Minister Basil Rajapakse to say that opposition MP's should be permitted to vote their conscience.
This is a perfect example of bribery, corruption, cronyism and nepotism in Sri Lankan politics. It is only 5 months since the last Parliamentary elections, and these MP's have no mandate from their voters, nor have any conscience.
It is all about money where MP's have been promised, hundreds of millions of rupees, additional luxury vehicles, extra secury for pomp and circumstances and to steal with impunity from the public coffers.
That is why the opposition member cross over, in addition to promises of becoming a minister or deputy minister.
Furthermore any pending criminal, tax or customs investigations would be put on hold, or dismissed.
